The determinants of bank default risk: Evidences from Vietnamese commercial banks

    Get PDF
This study aims to measure default risk of Vietnamese commercial banks and determine its drivers. The proxy for default risk is market-based distance to default following option pricing method of Black and Scholes (1973) and the structural method of Merton (1974). The average distance to default of all sample banks fluctuated with an increasing tendency during the research period. Using quarterly data of 9 public listed commercial banks in Vietnam in the period from 2009 to 2016 and static panel data model, credit growth, customer deposits and loan loss provisions are found to have significant effects on distance on default while return on average assets, capital adequacy and GDP growth have little impact. For comparison purpose, Boyd and Graham’s (1986) Z-Score is calculated and found to be significantly influenced by return on average assets, credit growth and customer deposits. Loan loss provisions, capital adequacy and GDP growth are not significantly correlated with Z-Score. Keywords: bank default risk, bank stability, distance to default, Z-Score, Vietna

This study was conducted to investigate the factors affecting the quality of life in terms of the health of the elderly in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), Vietnam. Health production theory was used to form the analytical framework for the study. The data set of 300 surveyed elderly people, which was randomly drawn from the list of 841,000 older people in HCMC by Excel random function, was used for quantitative analysis, including Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and linear regression. Research results show that gender and marital status are not statistically significant while education, employment, bonding, bridging, and linking social capital statistically significant impact on the quality of life of the elderly. Specifically, the level of education improves the quality of life while employment reduces the quality of life. This finding is an important implication for policies related to the retirement age of employees. The research results have also provided empirical evidence on the potential of social capital, a resource existing in the network of relationships, in improving the quality of life besides other traditional resources. This finding is an important basis for policymakers in mobilizing social capital resources in the context of resource scarcity

Effects of financial statements information on firms’ value: evidence from Vietnamese listed firms

    Get PDF
The paper studies the effects of information reporting in financial statements on values of Vietnamese firms. The study uses panel data with 1,070 observations from 214 firms, which are listed in the stock market of Vietnam in the period from 2012 to 2016. Multiple regression results show that the growth, firm size, profitability, auditing quality and timelineness are positively related to firm values, whereas the capital structure, auditing explanation negatively affect that indicator. The paper also indicates the inconsistency in measuring firms’ value by different measures including EV, Tobin’s Q or share price. Moreover, the research results reflect that measuring firms’ value by EV is more appropriate. The results of empirical research are instructive for enterprises to improve the usefulness of information in financial statements, thereby enhancing enterprises’ values

Action research becomes an appropriate and effective professional development method and strategy to promote inquiry knowledge and solve the problem that leads to action or change. Teachers participating in action research could gain a better insight into themselves as teachers, be motivated to continuous professional growth, and boost their self-confidence as professionals. The main objective here is to examine high-school administrators' and teachers' perceptions of the necessity of evaluation criteria for pedagogical action research. This research surveyed 255 respondents, including 16 administrators and 239 teachers from high-schools in Binh Duong province, Vietnam, with the 11-item questionnaire. The main finding indicated that all high-school administrators and teachers participating fully agree that novelty, effectiveness, and applicability are necessary criteria to evaluate quality of pedagogical action research in Vietnam. Our study contributes to the general discussion about necessary and appropriate criteria for evaluating the quality of pedagogical action research in Vietnam

Geometrically nonlinear buckling analysis of truss with length imperfection subjected to mechanical and thermal load using hybrid FEM

    Get PDF
This paper presents a novel hybrid FEM-based approach to establish the mathematical model for solving the nonlinear buckling problem of truss systems with length imperfection under mechanical and thermal load. due to constant temperature change-based hybrid FEM. The proposed approach deals with establishing hybrid types of truss elements, including perfect truss elements without thermal deformation and truss elements with length imperfection and thermal deformation. The equilibrium equation of both truss elements is established based on compatibility relationships considering geometric nonlinearity. The hybrid global equilibrium equations of truss systems are developed by assembling constructed perfect truss elements without thermal deformation and truss elements with length imperfection and thermal deformation. The incremental-iterative algorithm based on the arc-length method is used to establish calculation programs to solve the hybrid global equilibrium equation for investigating the geometrically nonlinear buckling behavior of the truss system. The numerical test is presented to investigate the buckling and post-buckling behavior of truss systems having some elements with length imperfection under thermal and mechanical load

    Get PDF
Cooperation between social workers and educational forces in high schools is viewed as a two-way cooperative effort to assist learners needing intervention. Intervention, emergency support for teachers or students needing intervention or assistance; Organize events to promote student development, community integration, and assistance for teachers and parents in need. The evaluation criteria for the cooperation between social workers and educational forces are based on four coordination components. Includes four scales evaluating the advantages, objectives, contents, and form of cooperation between high school social work personnel and educational agencies. A review of the cooperation between social work personnel and educational forces in high schools is gaining interest, although no research has been conducted on this topic. According to research findings, coordination between social work personnel and educational forces in high schools has been formed, albeit to a low and inconsistent degree across activities. The institution must perfect the organizational structure of its operations, management, and social work divisions. Furthermore, when coordinating with educational forces, social work personnel must emphasize the benefits of cooperation with educational forces. In addition, social workers must be adaptable between forms and activities according to the conditions and nature of their work.Ho Chi Minh City University CS.2021.19.4

BACKGROUND: Previous studies worldwide have investigated the anatomy of the perforators of the deep inferior epigastric arteries to figure out the navigation patterns of the perforators on the abdominal wall. This has been inconsistent amongst the researchers about how to select the perforator to increase the blood supply area for the flap. AIM: To explore the blood supply area of the perforators of the superficial and deep inferior epigastric artery in the abdominal region of the Vietnamese by dissection and 64-slice multislice computed tomography (64-slice MSCT). METHODS: A descriptive cross-sectional study Center from September 2014 to September 2016 on two groups including 30 cadavers fixed by formalin 10% in Anatomy Department of UPNT, and 37 patients getting the 64-slice MSCT abdominal arteries angiogram. RESULTS: The superficial epigastric arteries at the level of the inguinal ligament were located in the middle region, with 96% (right) and 88.5% (left). The anterior superior iliac spine level was in the middle, and lateral regions of 68% and 32% respectively. The level of the umbilical cord was in the lateral region with 66.7% and 85.7%, respectively. There were about 6 perforators of the deep inferior epigastric arteries located in the navel area. These perforators were 70% in the medial region and 30% in the middle region. CONCLUSION: Mapping the blood supply based on the fourth space in the abdominal region in which the superfical inferior epigastric arteries supplied the lateral area. The middle and the internal ones were the perforators of the deep inferior epigastric arteries
